The following is an incomplete list of some of the many books and resources that I have learned from in my personal health and fitness journey. I have incorporated many of the ideas from these sources into my own writings and teachings, including the Joe Abs Guide to Getting Abs at Any Age and the Joe Abs Clean Eating Live-It.

Flat Belly Diet for Men by Liz Vaccariello with Milton Stokes
This book is based on the New York Times best-selling diet from the editors of Prevention Magazine, with the tag line “Real Food. Real Men. Real Flat Abs.” The cover also claims “LOSE UP TO 27 LBS in Just 32 Days” – which probably isn’t very healthy – but there is A LOT of real good information in this book. One think that stood out to me, is that is cautions against mindless eating – which I know has been a challenge for me in the past and probably is for many other people as well. Next time you are at a party or event, notice how easy it is to snack on unhealthy appetizers or finger foods – and try to avoid it.

The Abs Diet, Get Fit, Stay Fit Plan by David Zinczenko with Ted Spiker
Another part of The Abs Diet series of books by David Zinchenko, Editor in Chief of Men’s Health Magazine. This one is based on the original book, The Abs Diet and focuses a lot on different workouts and exercises and how to do them.
The New Abs Diet Cookbook by David Zinczenko with Jeff Csatari
Another Part of The Abs Diet series of books. Focusing mostly on foo-foo recipes that I’d never make – nor enjoy. I would not even eat many of the foods discussed to get or keep my 8 pack abs.
I never did get me meet Mr. Max Sturman who was obviously a promoter of good health and nutrition – although I have been in contact with his son Andy who actually lives less than a couple of blocks away from me here in sunny San Diego. Max wrote many books on the subject of healthy eating and I happened to stumble across You Are What You Eat, Dude! in the local Carmel Valley branch of the San Diego library. Lot’s of great information in this book – it was published by the author’s Do It Naturally Foundation (now defunct) in 2009 when he was 90 years old. It’s too bad that the work of the foundation won’t be carried on.
